The San Antonio Express News reported today (22 June 2006) that George
Cardenas, okay user ID cuttingedge101, was indicted on ten charges of
wire fraud and one charge of mail fraud involving electronics items
including laptops worth $27,300 that he sold on okay but never
delivered. One interesting
point is that by viewing his feedback, you will see that he has not
sold anything in three years. Guess the wheels of justice turn slowly
but I am sure glad that something is finally being done. Situations
like this are bad for okay and for all honest sellers. You can also
determine from the feedback that some of his victims were first time
users or ones that had purchased very few items. After dealing with
this person, they either never bought another thing on okay or
purchased only a limited amount of items and who can blame them. Buyers
are now covered by PayPal's Dispute Resolution process and in some
cases by the Buyer Protection plan. Always look for the PayPal Buyer
Protection seal in the seller information box on the item page. If you
pay by credit card, you can always dispute the purchase with your
credit card gepany. If the seller says in his ad that he will only
accept cash transfers from PayPal or money orders, I would be very
careful about placing a bid on that item.
