Purchase a desktop

So you are purchasing a desktop, there are many things you need to consider when selecting a desktop. If you dont know what you are buying you need to do a little research and read some guides.
First thing to think about is processors, there are many that are sold cheap. AMD Duron, Sempron, Intel Celeron are the slower of the CPU or processors. You are most likely to find these on the shelfs of Best Buy, Circuit City, ect
There is a huge difference between these cheap processors and a high grade or business platform CPU. If youre looking for a fast PC you need to consider a Pentium 4 or a AMD 64 Bit. You will see a huge speed increase just using these processors.
The difference is how fast everything will flow within the geputer. This is the first part that must not be a bottle neck.
Next best bang for the buck is memory. Think of this as a pool to hold Running programs This is not to be confused with storage for the hard drive.
Anything running is using memory. Windows, instant messengers, firewall, anti-virus, office programs, and many background programs that you dont think of running.
Windows , firewall, and anti-virus will easly use 256Mb of memory without anything else running ! Thats why memory is important !! Minimum memory should be 512Mb and if youre going to edit photos, burn DVDs you should really think of 1Gb of memory.
Next best speed trick is the hard drive. No matter how fast the processor and memory are, we all wait on the data to gee from the hard drive. This will boost the speed at a noticeable difference.
Most cheap store bought hard drives are 5400 RPM, approx 75Mb a second data output. Next is a more gemon 7200 RPM hard drive at 100Mb a second. And the best bang for the buck is 10,000 RPM with a killer 150Mb a second transfer. This is the most noticeable speed for upgrades.
