What is the Style of this Harley Davidson Jacket?

Please forgive me if I sound like I don't know what I am talking about, it's because I don't. I am not a motorcycle enthusiast myself, but my brother has become one, so I occasionally look at such items when I am out at Flea Markets. Well I came across this jacket, it is distressed leather, and is a ladies size Large. I was hoping you experts here could help me identify what

What happened to Vinny on TLC's "American Chopper?"

While I'm much more of a "car guy" than a "motorcycle guy," I must admit that I very much enjoy watching "AMERICAN CHOPPER" on cable's The Learning Channel. __ Now, I know that I've probably missed one or two episodes this season which might explain a lot of things, but would somebody please fill me in on the whereabouts of Vinny! __ I was just watching a new episode concerning a National Guard-themed bike and Paul (Senior, that is) mentioned something to the effect that, "now that Vinny's not around anymore," but I obviously never saw the episode(s)leading up to and including his departure. __ So, is he gone permanently or just taking some extended [personal] time off? Is he possibly starting his own cycle shoppe or going over to an O.C.C. competitor, or even changing careers altogether?! __ Any insights and/or explanations would be greatly appreciated, so I'll certainly be looking forward to your responses. Thanks in advance! --Scott, Suburban Buffalo, N.Y.

Hi I'm trying to find information on Miklos Sas Police Jacket

I'm trying to figure out a date on this jacket, and if it's horsehide leather. Below is the link to my post on the vintage board. I found someone else selling the exact coat on line, but I can't find anything to confirm his date on the jacket. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Link *******************************

Interesting situation....or not.

I have a few used parts up for sale. The interesting situation is: I have 3 questions(through ebay) regarding shipping prices for a CB500 gas tank. Not unusual. What I find unusual is the fact that all questions are from Italy. It's not uncommon to get activity from Europe, even though I don't list shipping to there. In the past, I've tried to oblige if possible. Does this seem fishy or am I paranoid? There have been no offers that fit the usual scams that I'm aware of. Thanks, Gomer

Chain drive Bikes and Fat Tires......have a question...

Hi Y'all, I'm curious. Is there a recommended (safe) distance between the drive chain and the rear tire? I like my new bike, but I don't care for that skinny l'il tire on the backside of it. Thinking about going from the original 150/70 R17 to a 180/55 R17. The clearance is good all around, but it'll put the left side of the tire about a half an inch away from the chain. 'zat enough? Thanks. John

Old Harley Davidson Saddlebags

Can any Harley enthusiastic help me out? Can anyone tell me the approximate vintage of a pair of Harley saddlebags I have. They are tan/brown in color and have the Harley logo on each pouch but have brass grommets between the two bags which hold them together. I suspect that they are pre-World War II given their color, type of leather, age of the grommets, etc. but I was hoping that someone could be more exact. I'm thinking they're from the 1920s but I'm not sure. Thank you for your insights.

Bike title question

Hi, I have a 1981 Suzuki GS250 with a lost title. I bought the bike several years ago and was given a bill of sale from the seller and a letter stating the title was lost. The bike was last titled in Illinois. Here in Mich, the DMV will give me a salvage(??) title with a list of reciepts for the collective parts. I didn't worry about the title originally due to the fact that I bought it as a learner bike for my kids and we stayed to the back roads and off the radar. The bike survived unscathed and is a nice ride for short trips. Very cheap to operate. So I guess, after rambling, my question is whether anyone has a suggestion for titling the bike? Thanks, Gomer (recently demoted to poser status)

Yamaha R5 ignition timing

Hi. I'm trying to time a '72 R5C. It was advanced so far that it would kick back when trying to start it. I set the dial guage in and set it to fire at 2mm BTDC. The points look good and it would run before(after getting your leg thrown back at ya). Problem so far is that when I get the timing set correctly, the point gap is too close. Inserting a screwdriver and turning the breaker plate(not the points) doesn't seem to make any difference. Any tricks to this? Mountain?

Best bike you can't get anymore (but you want back)

A lot of us have ridden a number of bikes. Many of those bikes are no longer produced. Every few years most bikes that do stay around go through some change. Looking for some suggestions

I'm starting up a small fleet of training bikes to go along with the riding course I teach. I'm buying Kawasaki Police bikes, because those are what I learned on in police motor school. I see them pop up here every once in a while, and on Craigs list too. The first two I bought were from an over priced dealer in SoCal. Since then I've purchased one on CL and have gotten out bid here on the other. Other than here and Craigs List, does anyone have any suggestions as where to look? Every time I search for police auctions, all I come up with are seized vehicles, and not police bikes. Thanks

Horsehide Question - Is There a Way to Tell?

Hi Guys (and gals?), I've had some great help with an item in the past from everyone here, so I'm back with another question. I am guessing those of you here would know better than anyone. I handle a "lot" of vintage leathers (this is a new ID but I've sold lots of them on my other). Is there any way to tell if a particular leather is horsehide? I've tried to google this but I can't find any good answers. I have a jacket right now that is probably just steer leather, but it's a bit different than usual, so I thought I would ask, as much for my own interest as anything. Thanks for any help!

Problem Title, Need Help

Maybe one of yall nice fellas can steer me in the right direction. A while back I bought a motorcycle from my stepbrother, who lived in Bristol Tennessee. So I drove from Florida to Tennessee to pick up the bike and visit for a few days. He had the bike titled in Tennessee and gave me the title. When I got back to Florida I rode the bike to the local DMV office to transfer the title, and found out the vin didnt match the title. Florida verifies the vin before the title is issued. Apparently Tennessee does not. He bought the bike at a shop that was on consignment. To make matters worse he passed away shortly after and now I dont know how to title this bike. The only thing I can think of is the shop gave him a title for a different bike and since they dont verify the vin, Tennessee issued the title. I do not even know what shop sold the bike so I am at a dead end. Does anyone know how I could resolve this. I could use any and all advice on this matter. I would hate to buy a frame with title so I can ride it legally.

Civil Trial for Bill Janklow....

Civil trial stemming from Janklow accident going to trial SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Attorneys have failed to reach a settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from a fatal crash caused by former South Dakota Rep. Bill Janklow, so a federal judge in Minnesota will decide how much the victim's family is owed. Both sides met Wednesday for nearly three hours at U.S. District Court in Minneapolis but couldn't resolve it, according to courtroom minutes and one of the lawyers. Randy Scott, 55, of Hardwick, Minn., was killed Aug. 16, 2003, when his Harley-Davidson hit the back of the Cadillac Janklow drove through a stop sign at an intersection near Trent. Scott was killed instantly. Janklow was injured. Scott's family sued the United States for $25 million after the U.S. attorney in Minnesota concluded Janklow was on official business at the time of the crash -- which makes the federal government responsible for any damages. By March 1, both sides need to be ready to go to trial, which is expected to last three days. It will be in front of a judge, not a jury, said Ronald Meshbesher, the Minneapolis attorney for Scott's family. "We're just ready and alert from that point on," he said. A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office in Minneapolis said federal prosecutors could not comment. Janklow, who has returned to private practice as a lawyer, was a dominating force in South Dakota politics for 30 years. After serving as attorney general, the Republican was governor for 16 years, serving four terms in two separate eight-year stints. In 2002, he was elected as South Dakota's only member of the House. Janklow has diabetes and testified he had not eaten the day of the accident and likely blacked out when he approached the intersection. A jury in his boyhood home of Flandreau convicted him of second-degree manslaughter in December 2003. He resigned from Congress a month later, served 100 days in jail, paid a $5,000 fine, temporarily lost his law license and was forbidden from driving during his probation. He finished his sentence in the Minnehaha County Jail in May 2004. His three-year probation ended Jan. 22, 2007. Because Janklow was given a suspended imposition of sentence, his criminal record was cleared.

HD SPORTSTER QUESTION

I have the Bug to buy a Sportster. I have had HD 45s, Indian Chiefs and presently own a 1940 Indian Sport Scout. Never had a new motorcycle, always antiques, but am thinking of getting a late model Sportster. I see a lot of very low mileage Sportsters and I mean 3000 to 9000 miles on 2004 to 2006 bikes. Why is that? I even saw a 2003 anniversary custom with 1200 kit with 1700 miles and a few 2006 Sportsters with less than 1000 miles. A 883 would be fine for me but a 1200 would be even better. Any recomendations?

I ride standards (basic motorcycles). An XV920R, an FJ1100 and my wife's Honda 919. Now the more powerful standards are called "naked bikes". Very few basic standards left (SV650, Honda 919, etc.) Do you ride a Harley, a metric cruiser, a standard, a sport/touring, touring or a sport bike? Dirt bike or Enduro on the street? Car Tire on the back of a Harley?

I walked out of a retaurant the other day and, as usual, cast an eyeball on the bikes parked out front. There was a Fat Boy with what I believe to be a car tire on the rear wheel. I say that because it had the typical "square corner" profile of a car tire rather than the rounded profile I associate with bike tires. Is that likely? Wouldn't it foul up your handling, havig those "corners" on the outside edges of the tire? Inqiring minds want to know!

Lead and small motor bikes

I thought that some members of this board might find this article interesting, if not down right frightening concerning lead levels in small motor bikes. Link "A new national limit on lead in children's products -- which has toy makers scrambling for new testing methods and retailers for storage space for inventory they're not sure they can sell -- also is forcing motorcycle dealers to pull dirt bikes off showroom floors. It became illegal Tuesday to sell off-road machines geared for children younger than 12 because parts in them contain lead at levels greater than 600 parts per million. Most motor vehicles have such parts. About 100,000 of the bikes -- popular for trails, zipping around backyards and racing on motocross tracks -- sold last year for $1,500 or more, according to industry estimates. The ban, not yet permanent, is a blow to motocross racers of any age who want a small bike and now won't be able to get new equipment or repair what they have." This sounds an awful lot like an email I got recently: London Times Obituary of the late Mr. Common Sense, interesting and sadly rather true. Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the worm; life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers: I Know My Rights, I Want It Now, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

Honda Spirit 750 VS Harley Sportster

I am new in the motorcycle world, and own a Honda Spirit 750. It is a nice bike, but my whole family has always owned Harleys and I ultimately want one, but did not want to buy one for my first bike. Now that I've ridden for a little while, I was thinking about buying a Harley, but really can only afford a Sportster right now. I have talked with a few people, and most have said that I'd be better off with the Honda than the Sportster and that I should wait until I can get a larger Harley. Any help on this topic would be great. Also, if I keep my Honda, what should I do to improve it's performance.

Age on this jacket...

...and would the experts here really consider this a motorcycle jacket? I picked it up about 5 years ago, wore it a couple of times, then put it away. I know it's older, but can anyone here date it from the details? It has Talon zippers, a plaid lining, and belted sides. No labels, and the only real clue to the age I have is that there was a matchbook in the chest pocket that looked like it was from the 50's. My knowledge of motorcycle jackets starts and ends with the 80's and the Ramones, so I don't want to misrepresent this when I list it. Any help would be appreciated...or if you just want to make fun of the whole 80's thing, I'm okay with that too.

Ultima 65mm front end inverted forks

I was wondering why the Ultima 65mm inverted frontend forks were discontinued. I don't think it was a safety issue. They were replaced by the current 58mm inverted forks. I would like to find the 65mm with 6 over to buy. They are getting to be hard to find, I also wonder about getting parts now, such as the seals for them.

AREA RACING HELMET QUESTION

We have 2 Arai helmets and assume they are for racing motorcycles. Also, the model number appears to be GP-5 and GP-4K. We have done some research and would like to know the value, age and more info on them, prior to listing. We think they are about 8 years old, but unsure. One is brand new in box and the other used, but only slightly. If pics are needed or other info, we will add more. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Misleading Sale of Item

"What can be done if an item is being sold on eBay and the seller is misleading the bidders with false information !! Example: A vehicle is for sale, the seller says it was wet but not under water! After researching the vehicle in question, I find that it was in a fire and totalled by an insurance company. The seller goes on to say that it was a little rusty, (so he powdercoated it)whereas, the pics from the insurance sale reveal a burned up vehicle. I have proof of the insurance sale. I just know that this is misleading and don't want to see anyone get hurt with the said vehicle." This is on a motorcycle frame that got really toasted. You and I both know what heat does to a frame. Let me know what I can do to keep this sly seller from profiting on something dangerous.

Odd-Sized Tires

Hey! I've got an '81 Suzuki GS250T (Impressive, right?). I've been able to find exactly one tire for the front, and NONE for the rear. I need a 3.50-17 rear-mount tube tire, and apparently there are none in existence. Does anyone know where I can find what has turned out to be the hardest tire ever? I'm off the road until I get at least one for the rear.

Red Barron Choppers

For those of you that are thinking about buying a Red Barron/DHC frame from ebay. STOP. And read the disscussion below. Not only have I had horrible experience with them, they have bad reviews posted all over the internet. Here is my experience. I had a similar problem with DHC. I bought a frame (Switchblade 250) off eBay around the same time as you did and it took over 7 weeks to get it. No updates or anything from DHC/Red Barron. They are one of the companies that will take your money first and then build the part. I have had noting but problems with the frame. I have had to cut the frame to get the engine to fit. I had to cut the upper motor mount to get the Engine to fit. It doesn't come with axle stops, so I ordered some from them so I could weld them on, and they sent me galvanized hex bolts to weld on the frame. Most recently, and the reason I have posted this is that I went to install a set of forward controls and the left side tapped holes are off center for the controls to mount. I tried both a set of PM controls, and a set of Hammer Customs (Which by the way are excellent controls). I called DHC/Red Barron and Daniel Howe told me that they have been getting lots of calls about the same problem and that all aftermarket parts are not the same design, and that they can't make it to fit all. Everyone knows that this is a line of S**t. All 3-bolt configurations are the same. The holes that DHC drilled and tapped are just off enough to not work. DHC didn't offer to send a new plate to weld on. They told me to drill out the holes and bolt them on with nuts on the back. POOR CRAFTSMANSHIP. I would NOT Recommend this builder. They are seedy and inexperienced. When it comes down to it, they are an armature in a big boys business. They don't build quality products and offer poor customer service. DONT BUY FROM THIS BUILDER.

Cold weather riding gear

Hi all! 20 years ago or so I had my jacket lined with a great, quilted, extremely warm fabric. Unfortunately, although always toasty, it made my jacket bulky and rather stiff. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas with today's technology and new cold weather fabrics, what I should use to have it relined? I'm thinking there might be some skiers, climbers, boarders, and all-weather riders who might have something that works for them in extremely cold temps. Thanks for your suggestions!

Justice???? Read

This is for all us that ride motorcycles, wether it be Harleys or any brand, so please take the time to read this. Three weeks ago, I had the opportunity to take a ride with the ABATE of Ohio group from Warren Co. Ohio. It was a beautiful fall day, sunny and clear, not cloud in the sky. About half way thru the ride Bob Bryant told us that he had to leave, he had a prior engagment. So we all said our goodbyes and split up. Less than an hour later, we were informed Bob had been in an accident. A car had cut across in front of him at an intersection. Of course this put damper on the remainder of the rdie, cause we were concerned for Bob and his family. Less than an hour later, we were told Bob didn't make it to the hospital, we were shocked that a good man like him had been taken from us. He was the kind of man that would do anything for anyone especially kids. Last night at the Fairfield Chapter meeting of HOG, were Bob was also a member, we were told that the sentencing of the girl that hit Bob was to be on the 28th of Oct. She is to recieve 90 days (suspended) and a fine. Now I don't about you guys and gals, but I think my life is worth more than 90 days (suspended) and a fine. But her parents had hired two mouthpieces and they had cut a deal with the local DA, your tax dollars at work. The Judge said it's was all Bob's fault for riding without a helment, and for riding a motorcycle in the first place. This is after the girl admits to being on her ear held voice activated life support system (cellphone) and cutting in front of Bob. Now, if you ask me this smacks of prejudice. So the HOG group is going to be there for the sentencing, we are going to ride up to be a public but silent protest of this miscarriage of justice. Now, here comes the part that chaps my ass. The girls mom was interviewed and made some reamrks to the effect, that her daughter was such a sweet young thing and should be given every second chance she could get, because "all bikers are nothing but druggies anyway". Now what gives this woman the right to generalize and make these statments about people she doesn't even know? Let her come to a HOG meeting, or a Toys for Tots Run and say these things. She doen't know people like Bob, who qwned a soccer field and would do anything for anybody, so we need to get this out and hope something can be sone in the future to stop this kind of prejudice and foul use of justice against bikers. I hope you guys read this and get it out, forward it to anyone and print it off and post it on bulletin bouards something has to be done. Thank you...... Michael Estes Covington KY.

I have retired!!!

Hello everyone, it's been a long time since I've participated in the discussions here. After starting the second half of the school year in my music business, I took a long look at the economy and the fact that so many small businesses are being taken over by the larger music companies with very deep pockets and made the decision that I didn't want to get caught in the inevitable and have to give back a lot of what I've earned for 30 years. I have sold out my interest in the company and have moved to a small town in north Alabama where my children live. I'm not saying that someone couldn't talk me into working in this industry again, but right now I'm content with this choice. After rebooting my computer, I wanted to first check in here and see what's going on and intend to take part in the discussions again. I hope all of you are doing well and will talk to you soon! Strapping down a motorcycle!

I'm getting back into riding after several years and recently bought a Gold Wing on Ebay. It looks like I'm going to have to trailer it home (no one to go with me, I sure did want to ride it back). Harley-Davidson Collectibles - Tobacco Cards

Is there a discussion board for Harley-Davidson collectibles or an existing thread that anyone knows of? I picked up a Harley collectible item at a garage sale recently and am not sure what the value might be. I see one just like it listed here on ebay for close to $200.00 BIN. There is ONLY 1 listed - don't know if that's good or bad! I'll watch it and see if it sells at that price. It's a set of 3 reproduction H-D tobacco cards and apparently it is a retired H-D collectible item. Can anyone point me in the right direction on this? Much appreciated! Kelley

Motorcycle Hazards You Don't Normally See....

Saw the first one on our local news last night, and found the other on a Town Square thread this morning. As if we don't have enough to worry about! Email This Story Print This Story VTS Mayflies Cause WI Car Accidents Jul 18, 2004 9:13 am US/Central Hager City, Wis. (AP) A massive number of mayflies on a southwestern Wisconsin highway caused a motorcyclist to lose control, which led to four more car accidents. No one was seriously hurt. Matthew Stegmein was traveling on Highway 63 in Pierce County near Red Wing, Minn., when he lost control of his motorcycle Friday night, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department said. The mayflies, which have long bodies and large wings, made the road slippery. Stegmein was not injured and moved his motorcycle to the highway's shoulder. Cynthia Hanson of Hager City was northbound and stopped to help. Authorities say her SUV was rear-ended by a northbound truck, which started a chain reaction of three more northbound vehicles. Hanson was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. County highway department workers used snowplows to clear the insects from the road. Traffic was stopped for two hours. TOWN OF WAUKESHA, Wisconsin - A prankster tightly wound plastic wrap around traffic poles across a two-lane road, causing a motorcycle accident that injured two people. Daniel Buckel, and his girlfriend, Theresa Brzykcy, were riding south of Waukesha on Tuesday when their motorcycle crashed into the plastic wrap set up about 3 to 4 feet above the road — wound thickly from traffic poles on opposite sides. Buckel, 22, was within 10 feet when he saw the makeshift barricade, and hit the brakes. "It's appalling, and it's really frightening," Brzykcy, 19, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "What was their intention? This should make people more aware that pranks like that are not as harmless as they seem." Buckel was cut above his eye and broke his finger. Brzykcy also suffered scrapes and bruises. Buckel is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to a conviction. Last year several parked cars were found bound in plastic wrap to prevent drivers from getting inside, Detective Steve Pederson said.

Any advice for a Newbie rider....

Thanks for the advice a few months back on my bike. I bought a Buell Blast, and after a crying jag in the showroom of House of Harley over the color of the decals (I know, I know, that's wimmin for ya!), all is well. Except..... I took the ABATE class and got my license about three years ago, but was not in a position to buy a bike at that time. No one I knew had a bike small enough for me, so I just flat out didn't ride. I was nervous about driving my new bike home, so I had someone else drive it for me. I have since brushed up on the basics, had the same friend take me to a big 'ol parking lot a few times to get a feel for the bike, and now ride it around my neighborhood a few nights a week. My dilemma is a slight apprehension about taking it out on the "real road", meaning past the stop light to the honest-to-God-four lane-road-and-beyond my comfort zone. Any words of advice? Encouragement? Anything?

My daughter works at our local H-D shop and Friday night their sales manager, Ron, was riding home from work. He was traveling on the highway that runs through town and a pickup truck didn't see him behind a car and made a left turn in front of him. Then he saw him and stopped, if he would have kept going it probably wouldn't have been quite so bad, but since he stopped Ron laid the bike down and slid right into him. He has a 15%-20% chance of making it. He broke both arms, several ribs, punctured a lung. His heart is so bruised that they have him on a machine to keep him going. Please send prayers for him and his family and friends. It's all we can do right now.

Taking the plunge...signed up for basic safety course this Sept!

I have not driven a bike since I was 16. Now I am 42. LOTS of years. However, for the past 3 years, I have been a frequent passenger on a goldwing. And for the past 2 years, the itch has been there. Signed up for the PA basic safety course in Sept., and I can't wait! The only bummer is that right now the goldwing is the only motorcycle we have, and I have sat on it and lifted it, but when I do I am on my toes. So I won't be able to practice. Hopefully we will find a small, cheap bike for me to get back in the swing of things soon.

Harley Dealer hosing me ?

I'm looking for some opinions on whether my bike has turned lemon or my local dealer is hosing me. I have a 2000 FLSTC with 6000 miles on it, always garage kept and never road in the rain. This bike has been well taken care of. I took it in for my 5000 mile checkup last July 2003. It was running great as always. When I got it back I noticed it had starting popping alot when gearing down. I called the dealer who said he did nothing to cause that. I rode it this way and put it up for the w inter in Sept. When I got it out this year, I noticed the pipes were starting to turn gold at my mufflers. I figured it was running lean from last summer. (I had a hard time with this as I have had a thunder slide kit and screamin eagle free flow kit and mufflers on this big since it was new.) When I took it in to my dealer, he said the float was out of adjustment and the jets all plugged up.To me it still ran fine. I let them fix this problem. When I got it back the popping was gone for the most part but now it idled way too high and my battery went dead after I had it back for 2 days. I charged the battery back up a couple times then called the dealer again. I took it back and they called and said they found the trouble. It was both my head gaskest were blown. I reluctantly told them to fix it. I also asked them to check the charging problem. I picked it up $500. later after they told me it was charging fine but the battery needed replacing. I decided I would do it myself. When I got it home, I bought a battery and put it in. I then put my volt meter on the battery and it showed 12.6 volts. When I started it, it went to 12.4 and showed no charging. I knew then there was nothing wrong with my battery and they mis diagnosed it. I called the service mgr. at the dealership and let him know how unhappy I was. He said bring it out and he would again test the charging rate. I rode it right out and he finally got a tech to check it and I heard the tech tell him it was not charging and the stator was bad. I know I should have my head examined but I left it there for them to fix once again. When I got home, I looked in my service manual that I just bought and it clearly says to test the regulator first and then you can test the stator to see which is bad. I might add when I unplugged the regulator, the plug was full of oil. Not sure where it came from unless the dealer spun off my filter and let the oil run everywhere when changing my oil. I just can't beleive a bike that has given me no problem until I let this dealer work on it starting with the 5000 miles checkup is a lemon after 4800 miles of no problems. Any opinions?

Is Harley cutting corners to save a buck?

I'm afraid the motor company is at it again folks. They switched from the tapered Timken that they have used since 1955 to a caged roller on the sprocket shaft bearing on all big twins and sportsters and they started this in 2003. The information that I have read is that it speeds up production because the new bearing does not require end play set up.(trying to save a buck! but at who's expense?) The info also stated that several failures have occured in high-output engines but stock engines seem to be just fine. There seems to be some concern about the new screaming eagle engines because the engines that have failed are close to the dyno numbers of the 103!

If you didn't buy from them they snub you. I'll spare you all the details. You're welcome! So I'm looking in to learning how to do the work myself. I found an online course from Thomson Education Direct. It is a 9 month course that looks like it might be pretty good. Does anyone have any other recommendations or advice? Thanks.

Bikers and President Bush

Whatever your political persuasion may be, all of us may find this article interesting, and hopefully portraying bikers in a very positive light. Link President Bush greets Artie Muller, head of Rolling Thunder, and his passenger Nancy Sinatra as they visit the White House on Sunday. (Photo: AP) "Ride safe." President Bush (CBS/AP) Members of the Rolling Thunder motorcycling group revved their engines on the White House driveway Sunday during a visit with President Bush, who took about 10 bikers in jeans and leather jackets for an Oval Office tour. The roar from bikers on the Mall could be heard on the South Lawn as eight motorcycles, headlights illuminated and American flags jutting off the rear seats, rolled up the driveway to the South Portico where Mr. Bush was waiting to greet them. Mr. Bush shook hands with Artie Muller, president of the veterans' advocacy group, and kissed his rider, singer Nancy Sinatra, who was dressed in a skirt, cowboy boots and a pair of dark shades. Later, Mr. Bush addressed, via a telephone hookup, a Rolling Thunder rally at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium in the capital. Last week the group endorsed the president for reelection, citing his leadership in "honoring our nation's commitment to veterans" and "the war on terror." The president noted the letter of endorsement he received from the group last week. "Artie, I thought you were going to offer me riding lessons," Mr. Bush joked, thanking Rolling Thunder for backing his re-election campaign. "Ride safe," he told them. Other bikers who rode up the driveway included White House budget director Josh Bolton, Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson and Veterans Affairs Secretary Anthony Principi, and various Rolling Thunder leaders. The group endorsed Mr. Bush in 2000 over Democrat Al Gore, a Vietnam veteran. This year, they chose Mr. Bush, who served stateside in the Texas Air National Guard during Vietnam, over John Kerry, a decorated veteran of the same war who is also a motorcycle enthusiast. In November 2003, the Democratic presidential hopeful borrowed a Harley-Davidson cycle and road onto the stage of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." For the past 15 years, the group has announced its arrival with the roar of motorcycles — not unlike the sound of the 1965 bombing campaign against North Vietnam that was called Operation Rolling Thunder. Rolling Thunder is an organization dedicated to creating awareness of POW/MIA issues, promoting legislation to increase veterans' benefits, and volunteering time, food, and clothing to veterans and local communities. Rolling Thunder has 70 chapters and over 7,000 members throughout the United States and abroad. "In the Oval Office, I looked you in the eye as you told me of your relentless pursuit of finding out the plight of many of our POW/MIAs, and I appreciated so much your concern, your care and your persistence," Mr. Bush told the rally. "I also want to thank you and your organization, Artie, for honoring the men and women of our military who fight today in Afghanistan and Iraq."

Pilot Program: Bidding and Buy It Now Enhancements on eBay Motors

***Pilot Program: Bidding and Buy It Now Enhancements on eBay Motors*** In the next few days, we will be launching a pilot program on eBay Motors to make important information more clear to buyers during the Bid and Buy It Now process. During this pilot, we will be making a couple of changes: The seller's selected payment methods and shipping/handling information (the same information that is available on the Item page) will be displayed prominently during the bidding and buying process. This is intended to remind buyers about the details of the transaction before they commit to bid or buy. Please click here to see an example. As part of this change, we are also separating the sign-in process from the Bid and Buy It Now process. If a buyer is not signed in before attempting to bid, they will be asked to do so before the bidding or buying process starts. Members who are signed in prior to bidding or buying will not need to sign in again. This pilot will only appear on eBay Motors initially, and will be evaluated for launch to other eBay sites at a future date. Regards, eBay

Boss says no bikes at work!

OK, I'm bragging :^) Son has started riding his newly created Triton (Triumph-Norton cafe) to work. Boss is complaining that the parking lot is getting too much ride thru traffic. And son had to tell the receptionist not to interrupt the "guy with the bike" during the day. Wish I had a digital camera to post a picture!

1963 Honda Dream - Pricing

Hi, all - this is my first time posting here. I've been a MC rider since the mid-70s, but haven't ridden in a little while. I have a 1963 Honda Dream 305, all original (including, unfortunately, the tires) in very good to excellent condition insofar as the body goes, the engine runs well but hasn't been run in a while, that I'd like to sell. The problem is, I've been researching prices and they're all over the map. Are there any tips on the market for a bike like this, or that is the variability in pricing just kind of the way it is? I wanted to overhaul the motor but don't have the facilities (live in a flat in the city). Thanks very much for reading all of this, and for any leads, I'm scratching my head over this one. Vacationing in Daytona in May. Best kept secret around!

I just returned from Daytona beach. I had to let you all know that the town is almost empty this time of the year. If you want Daytona on the cheap this is the time to go. For example ocean front rooms are $50.00 dollars a night! If you walk across the street the rooms are $25.00 dollars a night! Daytona is still a lot of fun this time of the year. Main sreet is still there and all your favorite haunts are open just like bike week. The only difference is that you can actually find a place to park your bike and no lines for beer and no crowds but still plenty of motorcycles and entertainment....The weather is normally perfect also. This year it ranged from 84 degrees to 92 degrees.

I like the older bikes. they handle better, just because I couldnt have one does not mean I didnt ride in my youth. Looking for any good deals
