NEED ADVICE

I just purchased an old, not running, motorcycle for parts to use for building another bike. Upon tearing it down I discovered it has SEVERE flood damage, and what looks like definite fire damage. The damage is horrible. I paid $2000.00 for it and its probably only worth about $500.00. I went in person and picked the bike up, but the damage was not noticeble until I started taking everything apart. I havent contacted the seller yet. I have taken photos of all the damage. Im a fairly new Ebay user, What should I do to resolve this? Anyone have any suggestions?

Triumph Boneville T100

My father passed away this summer and left me his 2004 Triumph Bonneville T100. I want to sell the bike but have no idea of its worth. It has 584 miles and just had its break in service done in October. He added all the extra chrome possible. Any ideas of how much this bike would sell for?

Carb change for 1200 sportster (sport model)

I'm wondering my stock carb on my 1200 cc sportster is terrible when cold, spits, belches, I've changed the low speed jet to a 45, the high speed is a 175, Is it worth it going to a Mikuni to avoid all this?. Or should I continue to put more time and effort into the stock carb.

No other custom 3D helmets?

Searching thru the boards - art and biker - to see if there are other E-bayers doing 3D helmets. Seems a virgin market! I'm new to Ebay - just prepping for my first offerings. Will probably make my first virgin attempt what I call my "Hornie-buckits". I'll post a pic if I can figure out how. Enjoy. Hmmm... I don't see a button for uploading pics. ??

Big Twin not HD AEE Choppers

Does anyone know who owns the Big Twin cycle built by AEE Choppers and Tom McMullin? I have a friend that worked for AEE on this bike and he's asked me (he's less computer savvy than I)to see if anyone on the ebay site knows where this bike is. He was told in an internet chat room that it had been sold a couple of times on ebay over the last few years.

Fees for motorcycle listings

I recently bought a nice little motorcycle for $200, cleaned it all up, got it running and sold it on eBay for $330 - a nearly 60% profit. However, due to the "fixed price" fee structure, ebay got $100 of my profit and I ended up with $30 for all my work. The bike ran and was street legal so was not "parts only". Obviously the fixed price format doesn't work for little cheapies like this. Does anyone know of another category, or another venue for marketing this sort of item?

Kawasaki Woe's

I just recently purchased an '86 Kawasaki 600ZL Eliminator. It rides smoothly but the previous owner didn't take the best care of it so I would like to strip it down, rebuild the carbs, adjust the rear brake as well as a couple other things. At any rate my problem is this. The repair manual. So far I've found only one repair manual (isbn: 99924-1055-04) But this covers engine only! Apparently there is a supplemental book that goes along with it but it is no longer in print. If anyone has one or knows where I can find one please let me know.

Problem Title, Need Help

Maybe one of yall nice fellas can steer me in the right direction. A while back I bought a motorcycle from my stepbrother, who lived in Bristol Tennessee. So I drove from Florida to Tennessee to pick up the bike and visit for a few days. He had the bike titled in Tennessee and gave me the title. When I got back to Florida I rode the bike to the local DMV office to transfer the title, and found out the vin didnt match the title. Florida verifies the vin before the title is issued. Apparently Tennessee does not. He bought the bike at a shop that was on consignment. To make matters worse he passed away shortly after and now I dont know how to title this bike. The only thing I can think of is the shop gave him a title for a different bike and since they dont verify the vin, Tennessee issued the title. I do not even know what shop sold the bike so I am at a dead end. Does anyone know how I could resolve this. I could use any and all advice on this matter. I would hate to buy a frame with title so I can ride it legally.

Civil Trial for Bill Janklow....

Civil trial stemming from Janklow accident going to trial SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Attorneys have failed to reach a settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from a fatal crash caused by former South Dakota Rep. Bill Janklow, so a federal judge in Minnesota will decide how much the victim's family is owed. Both sides met Wednesday for nearly three hours at U.S. District Court in Minneapolis but couldn't resolve it, according to courtroom minutes and one of the lawyers. Randy Scott, 55, of Hardwick, Minn., was killed Aug. 16, 2003, when his Harley-Davidson hit the back of the Cadillac Janklow drove through a stop sign at an intersection near Trent. Scott was killed instantly. Janklow was injured. Scott's family sued the United States for $25 million after the U.S. attorney in Minnesota concluded Janklow was on official business at the time of the crash -- which makes the federal government responsible for any damages. By March 1, both sides need to be ready to go to trial, which is expected to last three days. It will be in front of a judge, not a jury, said Ronald Meshbesher, the Minneapolis attorney for Scott's family. "We're just ready and alert from that point on," he said. A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office in Minneapolis said federal prosecutors could not comment. Janklow, who has returned to private practice as a lawyer, was a dominating force in South Dakota politics for 30 years. After serving as attorney general, the Republican was governor for 16 years, serving four terms in two separate eight-year stints. In 2002, he was elected as South Dakota's only member of the House. Janklow has diabetes and testified he had not eaten the day of the accident and likely blacked out when he approached the intersection. A jury in his boyhood home of Flandreau convicted him of second-degree manslaughter in December 2003. He resigned from Congress a month later, served 100 days in jail, paid a $5,000 fine, temporarily lost his law license and was forbidden from driving during his probation. He finished his sentence in the Minnehaha County Jail in May 2004. His three-year probation ended Jan. 22, 2007. Because Janklow was given a suspended imposition of sentence, his criminal record was cleared.

HD SPORTSTER QUESTION

I have the Bug to buy a Sportster. I have had HD 45s, Indian Chiefs and presently own a 1940 Indian Sport Scout. Never had a new motorcycle, always antiques, but am thinking of getting a late model Sportster. I see a lot of very low mileage Sportsters and I mean 3000 to 9000 miles on 2004 to 2006 bikes. Why is that? I even saw a 2003 anniversary custom with 1200 kit with 1700 miles and a few 2006 Sportsters with less than 1000 miles. A 883 would be fine for me but a 1200 would be even better. Any recomendations?

What do you own/ride now.

I ride standards (basic motorcycles). An XV920R, an FJ1100 and my wife's Honda 919. Now the more powerful standards are called "naked bikes". Very few basic standards left (SV650, Honda 919, etc.) Do you ride a Harley, a metric cruiser, a standard, a sport/touring, touring or a sport bike? Dirt bike or Enduro on the street?

Car Tire on the back of a Harley?

I walked out of a retaurant the other day and, as usual, cast an eyeball on the bikes parked out front. There was a Fat Boy with what I believe to be a car tire on the rear wheel. I say that because it had the typical "square corner" profile of a car tire rather than the rounded profile I associate with bike tires. Is that likely? Wouldn't it foul up your handling, havig those "corners" on the outside edges of the tire? Inqiring minds want to know!

Lead and small motor bikes

I thought that some members of this board might find this article interesting, if not down right frightening concerning lead levels in small motor bikes. Link "A new national limit on lead in children's products -- which has toy makers scrambling for new testing methods and retailers for storage space for inventory they're not sure they can sell -- also is forcing motorcycle dealers to pull dirt bikes off showroom floors. It became illegal Tuesday to sell off-road machines geared for children younger than 12 because parts in them contain lead at levels greater than 600 parts per million. Most motor vehicles have such parts. About 100,000 of the bikes -- popular for trails, zipping around backyards and racing on motocross tracks -- sold last year for $1,500 or more, according to industry estimates. The ban, not yet permanent, is a blow to motocross racers of any age who want a small bike and now won't be able to get new equipment or repair what they have." This sounds an awful lot like an email I got recently: London Times Obituary of the late Mr. Common Sense, interesting and sadly rather true. Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the worm; life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers: I Know My Rights, I Want It Now, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

Selling a $100,000 harley?

I have an associate through work that would like me to sell there harley davidson for them on ebay. I have been selling for about 7 years but nothing near this in value. The bike is all custom and I have seen pictures of trophies and awards for best bike a local harley shop. The owner says the bike has a value of over $100,000 My questions are first what kind of listing fees would I be looking at (I guess I can look that up myself). This would be a pickup only. Would this be a risky deal? I guess the safest way for payment would be a credit union loan or cash? Any thoughts or advise?

OEM HD Paint

My son had a deer run into the side of my '99 Sportster Sport last night. Tore off the front fender and broke the enrichening cable(choke). Killed the deer. I went to the local dealer today and was told the paint color, Nugget Yellow is obsolete. So who is the OEM supplier of paint for HD? The parts person looked at me like I was crazy when I asked. DuPont would be my guess, but I want to get the OEM supplier because I'll bet I can get it mixed to an exact match, if I know the supplier. It is a lovely color and does not clash with my high top white riding sneakers.
